Two Tropical Systems Monitored in Pacific; Increased Risk for U.S. Southwest
MX · Published Jun 4, 2026
Forecasters are closely monitoring two developing tropical systems in the eastern Pacific basin.
According to the National Hurricane Center's June 1, 2026, advisory, one system southwest of Baja California has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical depression by midweek.
Another area of low pressure near Central America has a 30% chance of development later in the week.

Why It's Important?

While most Pacific storms do not make landfall, forecasters warn of increased risks for Mexico, Central America, and the U.S. Southwest. Southern California and the broader Southwest, including Arizona and New Mexico, face elevated flood risks from tropical moisture interacting with monsoon systems. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding could occur, particularly in late-season scenarios.
